Celebrating our Parish Jubilee Archway

This weekend, on the great Feast of Corpus Christi, our parish celebrates the blessing and official opening of our Jubilee Year Archway. It will take place at the start of 9.30am Mass, and marks a deeply significant moment in our community’s life of faith. Rooted in the biblical tradition of jubilee, our Jubilee Year is a time when we are reminded of God’s faithfulness across the generations and the invitation to recommit ourselves to the journey of discipleship. The Archway is a symbol of this journey—a physical marker of spiritual pilgrimage and invitation. Everyone who is able is encouraged to walk through the Archway at Sunday’s Mass as part of the Corpus Christi celebrations.

This symbolic act isn’t just for one day. The Archway will remain in place throughout the rest of our Jubilee Year, and all parishioners are warmly invited to make a personal pilgrimage to it. Whether on a quiet weekday morning, after Sunday Mass, or during a visit to the church for prayer or reconciliation, passing through the Archway becomes a chance to pause, reflect and open our hearts to the grace of God. It might be as simple as offering a silent prayer of thanks, or as deliberate as bringing before the Lord a decision, a question, a hope or a burden.

The Archway doesn’t lead to somewhere new—it reminds us that God is present on the road we already walk. As we pass through it, we remember that our faith is not static but dynamic. We are pilgrims, always journeying deeper into the mystery of Christ’s love. On Corpus Christi Sunday, the very heart of that mystery is held before us in the Eucharist: Christ present in the consecrated bread and wine, broken and shared, given for the life of the world. Let this Jubilee Archway be a threshold of hope, unity and renewal for our parish. May it call us to new courage, deeper communion, and the joy of walking together in faith.

Solidarity in the Sand: CEO Sleepout 2025

In the same spirit of walking alongside others, our parish has also taken part in a very different kind of journey this week. On Thursday night, Fr Josh and Fr Gerard joined more than a hundred local leaders for the 2025 Vinnies CEO Sleepout, an annual event raising awareness and funds to address homelessness across Australia.

While the weather on the night was milder than it has been in recent weeks, the experience of sleeping on the sand—even for just one night—was a confronting reminder of what too many people in our community face every single day. As Fr Josh reflected the next morning, “It wasn’t just the discomfort—it was the  vulnerability. Knowing there was no door to close behind me, no roof over my head, no sense of true safety or privacy—it  changes how you think.” That is the point of the Sleepout: to enter into a small measure of the struggle, in solidarity with those who sleep rough not by choice, but by circumstance. It is an act of empathy and advocacy. And we are so proud of our priests for stepping into this space on behalf of us all.

We also thank every parishioner who supported their efforts—whether through donation, prayer, or words of encouragement. Your generosity helped raise vital funds for the Sunshine Coast branches of St Vincent de Paul, with all donations staying right here in our region. That means the money raised, which was a combined total of $17,226 will directly assist our local SVDP Conferences as they offer emergency housing support, crisis relief, and practical assistance to individuals and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

This is the Gospel in action. It’s easy to think of the Eucharist as something purely spiritual—but it is always social. It calls us to love our neighbour, to lift the lowly, to bring healing and hope to the forgotten and the poor. Our Jubilee Year invites us to walk more deeply with Christ—and with one another. Whether we walk through a symbolic archway or lie down on the sand in solidarity, we are being called to open our eyes and hearts to the presence of Christ in our midst. Let us continue to be a parish of prayer, action, and compassion—living our Jubilee with joy and purpose.
