First Sunday of Lent

You are invited to join us for this year’s Lenten Mini Mission

This year Br Damien Price will be leading our reflection and during the course of the three sessions, he will concentrate on ‘The Encounter Cycle’.  Pope Francis has encouraged us to create a culture of encounter and ‘The Encounter Cycle’ provides a simple but powerful roadmap for mission in our day-to-day lives. Jesus deeply encountered the people of his day. The first step in true encounter is to come as guest onto the sacred ground of relationships. The guest comes slowly, respectfully, humbly, open and ready to both receive and give. The guest ‘honours’ the other. The guest sees and senses the innate dignity of the other as a temple of God’s Holy Spirit. From this we choose to be deeply present. Our presence is a choice to be totally there for the other. The way we look, the way we speak, touch and listen says beyond words, “You are lovable – you are the totally unconditionally loved son or daughter of God!”

So please join us this week. Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday (March 7-9) beginning at 9:30am at Our Lady of the Rosary Church will be the morning session and then at 4:30pm in the afternoon at Sacred Heart, Maleny. The morning session will be lived streamed from 9:30am on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

                                                         Conversations with Br Damien

For those who are unable to attend the morning sessions at OLR or afternoon sessions at Maleny, join us for Conversations with Br Damien in the OLR Parish Centre from 7-8pm on this Monday and Tuesday nights – supper provided.

Episcopal Visit

We are delighted that our new Auxiliary Bishop of Brisbane, Bishop Tim Norton, has accepted our invitation to visit the parish from Saturday, March 19th to Monday, March 21st. While the itinerary is still being worked out, at this stage Bishop Tim will celebrate the 5pm Mass at Beerwah on Saturday, March 19th, the next morning he will celebrate the 7am Sunday Mass at Landsborough followed by the 9:30am Mass at Caloundra.  In the evening, Bishop Tim will celebrate the 5pm Youth Mass at the Unity Chapel. On Monday morning, the Bishop will visit Our Lady of the Rosary primary school and Unity College. The confirmed arrangements will be in next weekend’s newsletter.

Additional Lenten opportunities for you this lent.

Not only have we the Parish Mini Mission beginning this Monday but there are several other additional opportunities to incorporate into your Lenten journey.  There is now a weekly Wednesday 7.50am Mass available at Unity College Chapel. This Mass will be attended by college students and teachers and is also open to parishioners – all welcome, please join us.  On Wednesday evening this week at OLR church from 6.30-7.30pm there is Adoration organised by our Young Adult Group – all are welcome. Also, on the Fridays of Lent, immediately following the 9am Mass, there will be the Stations of the Cross.

Thank you

Your generosity to the Parish week in, week out, is very much appreciated and our Parish mission of witnessing to the Good News takes place through your continued support thank you.   The disruption caused by Covid has changed so many  aspects of our lives and daily routine and we have all had to adapt and discover new ways of doing old things! This is especially true of how we financially support the parish. For some the direct debit option works well,  others have utilized the QR code or the drum at the entrance to the OLR church or the collection plates at our other communities. However you decide to financially support the different communities of Our Lady of the Rosary, a grateful parish says thank you!

What’s For Lunch?

These Covid months have highlighted so many things that we have taken for granted such as the ability to gather together and be social. One of our Parish traditions here in Caloundra has been the monthly Ladies’ Lunch, which has been a great opportunity for us from every corner of our community to share a meal and enjoy each other’s company. The next Ladies’ Lunch will be on Friday, March 18th at 12 noon at the Golden Beach Tavern (32 Bowman Road Caloundra). As with all restaurants, you will need proof of vaccination. Please accept this invitation – why not bring a friend?  If you would like to come please let Deborah know by Monday 14th March to assist with catering. Thank you.

Pray for us

The preparation of our young parishioners for the reception of First Holy Communion is ongoing at OLR church on Wednesdays. With the help of the Sacramental Team, our young parishioners have been learning the Catechism, what it means when we gather as a community of Christ’s faithful, how to listen and respond to the Word of God (The Liturgy of the Word), how to give thanks, take and eat in the Mass (The Liturgy of the Holy Eucharist) and how to go forth to the world, becoming another Christ.  At the back of OLR church, you will see their names and photographs. Please pray for them. With your prayers, God’s wisdom will be upon them. Thank you.

Monthly Adoration  – All Welcome

Each month our young adults will be offering and facilitating an hour of Adoration for all parishioners. The first Adoration night is Wednesday 9 March from 6:30pm – 7:30pm in OLR Church. There will be various prayer opportunities including led music, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, gospel of the day and guided reflection, periods of silence, Benediction, and more. All parishioners are welcome to attend at any point in the hour that suits them, and may come and go as it suits you.

Synod on Synodality

The local consultation period for the international Synod on Synodality has been extended. Submissions can now be received through the online portal until Sunday, March 13. Don’t miss out on this chance to take part in a global conversation about the Catholic Church. How are we called to walk together as Christians? How can we listen to one another in making important decisions about our faith and our mission? Find out more and share your contribution at:

Taizé Prayer

In the monastery at Taizé, short mantra-like songs create a relaxing style of prayer. As the words are repeated, their reality gradually penetrates our whole being. Singing becomes a way of listening to God. The simplicity and repetition allow us to wait attentively on God.  This is a prayer of ‘watching’, awakening and listening.  It is very much in the spirit of the Lenten Scriptures. Come and relax in this beautiful prayer at OLR on Tuesday 15 March at 7pm OR St. George’s Anglican Church,  2 Walkers Drive, Maleny on Sunday 6 March at 6.00pm.

Kingdom Youth Launch

A reminder that our Youth Launch is coming up on FRIDAY 11 MARCH from 5pm-9pm at Unity College.

All Year 7-12 students welcome! Arcade games, ping pong, pizza, cotton candy, popcorn, slushies, raffle rego, and more. Please register via the QR code. All registered go in the running to win Apple Airpods! See you there!

Sisterhood – Lenten Program

All ladies 18 – 35 are invited to join our Sisterhood Lenten Group meetings on Thursday at 5pm in the OLR Parish Centre throughout the duration of Lent. If you are interested in being a part of this group, it is $10 to join. Snacks/treats and more offered each week. Please contact Felicity if you would like to be a part of this. In Transition

As a parish family we welcome Frankie Warlow who will be baptised at OLR this weekend.

We also pray for James Ayres whose funeral will be on Friday 11th March at G&W. May his soul and all the souls of our  deceased priests, religious and parishioners  Rest in Peace.
