Ascension Sunday
News Pic
News Pic

We are nearing the end of our Easter Season as we celebrate the Ascension of the Lord this weekend, and then Pentecost Sunday next weekend. Both of these feasts help us to further make connections between the Life, Death, and Resurrection of Christ and our own life, death, and resurrection.

As soon as we think of the great feast of Pentecost we think of the Holy Spirit and the colour RED which so powerfully symbolises this feast and the working of the Holy Spirit.

Next weekend why don’t we all, as a community, try and wear something RED , and during the course of living this week contemplate what that item of clothing might be.

It certainly is a practical way of preparing for Pentecost!

Hours of Grace

This coming Friday/Saturday (3rd/4th June), the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed on the altar at OLR church for 24 Hours of Grace. These Hours of Grace are an opportunity to spend some time with the Lord in the most explicit way possible: adoring Jesus’ body at He rests in the monstrance. While opportunities for Adoration already exist in our parish – on Mondays at OLR church following 9am Mass, and at 8.30am on Tuesdays in Sacred Heart church, Maleny before 9am Mass – these 24 Hours of Grace are offered primarily for those who may not be able to attend existing adoration times. There is a roster at the side entrance of OLR church so that we can ensure at least two people are with Jesus, particularly on Friday night. The 24 hours commences with 9am Mass and exposition on Friday and finishes with 8am Benediction on Saturday morning. Please consider investing/offering up some of your time and “rest for a while” with Jesus (Mk 6:31).

Calling all Altar Servers

Each year, we offer altar server training – usually just for junior   ministers. This year, however, we are opening up the opportunity for both current and prospective junior ministers, and also those adults who already serve, or would like to serve the altar. This training opportunity will be fun and interactive as we look at the practicalities of a very important ministry.  If you or your child/grandchild would like to be part of this opportunity, please call/email the parish office with your details. Once we’ve compiled the list, we’ll decide on a suitable day/time that’s most convenient.  Tasty food and refreshments will be supplied!

National Reconciliation Week

This week is held each year from 27 May to 3 June. These dates mark two significant milestones in the ongoing journey toward reconciliation – the 1967 referendum and the 1992 High Court Mabo decision. 2022 marks 30 years since the Mabo decision was handed down. This year’s theme is Be Brave. Make Change, and encourages us all to look for actions we can take every day to help achieve reconciliation in Australia. For more information about activities click here, and for the Dr Jackie Huggins AM presentation on 29th May, click here.
