Congratulations to Bishop Brian for his 60th Ordination Anniversary which was last Wednesday on the Feast of Sts Peter & Paul.

Encounter Night – 13th July

Friends, coming up on Wednesday 13th July at OLR church at 5.30pm, you are invited the next parish Encounter Night. Encounter nights are engineered to facilitate what many Catholics have never experience in their lives: a personal encounter with Jesus. While the experience of Encounter looks and feels different for everyone, there are common themes to Encountering Christ – these are shared through testimony on the night. If you’ve ever wondered what is meant when someone talks about a personal encounter with Jesus, you’re invited to come and see for yourself. We start by serving finger food and drinks outside, followed by an evening of worship and prayer – the Sacrament of Reconciliation is also available. All are welcome! Please email the parish office asap – [email protected] – to register for catering purposes.

G’day lovely people!

I hope that you are all doing well! I would love to say a huge THANKYOU to you all for supporting me on this NET journey! This would not have been possible without all of your support, generosity and prayers. I’ve been placed in a wondrous place called Wollongong, NSW, where we get to work with the Wollongong Diocese travelling around to many different parishes and schools. These past few months here have been challenging, with hurdles to overcome here and there, but most of all it has been REWARDING as we have had the chance and opportunity to encounter around 1500 students.

You might be wondering what ministry we get up to as a team in Wollongong… Well, as I said, we are based within the Wollongong Diocese which means that we get to travel around to the nine systemic schools at least once a term and put on a ministry event called a LIVE Lunchtime (a lunchtime concert where we have fun with the students) and LIVE Night where we dive a little deeper into faith and give them a 3 hour retreat. We are also currently running two youth groups weekly – one in a place called Campbelltown (avg. 10 students), and one in Wollongong which only started up this year (avg. 20 students), with new people coming each week! Another ministry that we do involves weekly young adult events; this community is amazing and all of our young adults are so terrific.

Most of our students from the Wollongong youth group are returning students each week. The first week that we started up this youth group there were three girls who are best friends that came and I won’t lie, their energy radiates and fills my heart! I have got to journey alongside these three but especially one of these girls, who, over various weeks, has allowed me to continually be a part of her life. A few weeks ago we had a night where we were talking about authentic relationships and how we can strive for authentic relationships – this struck a chord with this girl. She became quite upset, but all she needed in that moment was someone to talk to and Jesus allowed me to be this person to her. I continued to talk to this girl throughout the night eventually up until we got to a prayer experience, where I went around to the girls in my small group and offered prayer. I sat down next to this girl and began to speak with her and she opened up to me, she allowed me in to her life and I was able to be the small vessel for Jesus in that moment. Although, she declined prayer for the night, I got to sit by her side and be someone that she could talk to. These girls go through some rough times with their friends but I pray that they will come to realise that Jesus is a constant friend they can always rely on.

Thank you for your support! Thank you for supporting the mission of NET and for helping to send me out to Wollongong! I well exceeded my sponsorship goal of $6,400 thanks to you! I can’t say thank you enough! NET relies on the donations of people like you to accomplish our mission. We are living in unique times and I know that these times are difficult for many. Above all, I humbly ask for your prayers. Prayer is the most powerful support in all of this – indeed, it is the foundation of our team, and we are praying for you too!

Please feel free to email me for more information on what we do as a NET Team: [email protected]

God Bless, Verity-Jane Lebeter, OLR Parishioner

Through the Plenary Council, the Catholic Church has been exploring what the future of our Church could look like as the culture in which we proclaim the Gospel changes. Next week in Sydney, the 277 members of the Plenary Council will vote on the motions that will affect that future.

Read the “Framework for Motions” containing 30 motions across 8 mission areas that the Members will vote on.  You can access them here. You will also find there the prayer by which we can support this historic event. Every night from Sunday July 3 to July 8 at 7.30 you can listen to Plenary Council Members and insiders summarising the day’s events. Plenary Council Prayer

Come, Holy Spirit of Pentecost.

Come, Holy Spirit of the great South Land.

O God, bless and unite all your people in Australia

and guide us on the pilgrim way of the Plenary Council.

Give us the grace to see your face in one another

and to recognise Jesus, our companion on the road.

Give us the courage to tell our stories

and to speak boldly of your truth.

Give us ears to listen humbly to each other

and a discerning heart to hear what you are saying.

Lead your Church into a hope-filled future,

that we may live the joy of the Gospel.

Through Jesus Christ our Lord,

bread for the journey from age to age.

Amen.

Our Lady Help of Christians, pray for us.

St Mary MacKillop, pray for us.
