World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly
CEO Sleepout
OLR St Vincent de Paul Conference presented Fr Josh with a certificate of appreciation for his support with the CEO’s Sleep Outs. Fr Josh has slept out for the last two years and raised many thousands of dollars for the local homeless and poor. This year’s proceeds will be used to purchase specially designed, environmentally constructed Tiny Houses, to help ease the housing crisis on the Sunshine Coast.
Fr Josh’s response is as follows: “While it was me receiving the certificate of thanks from OLR St Vincent de Paul Conference president, Bruce Franklin, for supporting Vinnies in the recent CEO Sleepout at Noosa Heads, the gratitude, in actual fact, goes to you: all the people who generously donated money to this wonderful cause – helping solve homelessness in out part of the world. Thank you, thank you, thank you
Congratulations Fr Ejikeme
As a parish community, we congratulate and celebrate Fr Valentine Ejikeme on his 7th anniversary of Ordination.

Parish Reconciliation Action Plan Group
Following last Saturday’s very informative screening of the Q&A session of Archbishop Mark Coleridge and Dean Parkin on the Uluru Statement From the Heart, six people decided to work on developing a draft of a RAP based on the Archdiocesan Reconciliation Action Plan. Any parishioners wishing to join this small working group are invited to contact the Parish Office as soon as possible.
Safeguarding Surveys
The protection and wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults is at the core of Church mission, and setting the right approach to safeguarding is important. The thoughts and views of children and the Church community are essential in helping shape that approach. The Archdiocese has prepared two short safeguarding surveys to help gather feedback from children and the Church community. Your help in completing the surveys would be very much appreciated. There are two surveys: one for adults and one for children. If you have children in your household, please consider guiding them to complete the child-survey. The survey is seeking information from children aged 5 to 12 years. The survey should take less than 1 minute to complete.

Finance Committee Report
This is a report of the meeting of the Our Lady of the Rosary Parish Finance Committee held on Wednesday, 8 June 2022, in the Egan Room of the Caloundra Parish Centre. After the opening prayer, the minutes of the previous meeting and the financial statements of the parish were tabled and discussed. Matters arising out of the minutes included:
- The old septic unit at Beerwah needs to be replaced. Work has been carried out over the years to keep it functioning but that is no longer an option. The first quote has been received for $7800 and the Committee is awaiting a second quote before proceeding.
- Repairs need to be made to the Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) building, adjacent to the presbytery at Caloundra. The metal support frame has deteriorated through years of exposure to the elements and after consultation with engineers, the metal frame will be replaced with timber, hopefully in the next school holidays.
- Negotiations are continuing with Brisbane Catholic Education and the Archdiocesan Development Fund regarding the purchase of the land at Aura and guaranteeing a parish presence and church structure.
Other matters discussed included:
- Repairs to the cottage at Maleny were approved including the replacement of timber balustrading and removal of mould. Amended Request for “Sewerage Adjustment Application” has been submitted for excessive water use due to a concealed broken feed under the concrete driveway.
- Progress on the final phase of the refurbishment of the Caloundra Parish Centre will take place with the signing of the contract to complete the covered gathering area connecting the servery with the church. It was hoped that the construction would be completed by the Jubilee Mass on the 2nd of October but material and labour shortages will continue to cause delays.
- The parish has disposed of one of the old utes that was used when the parish ran a home assistance programme and replaced it with a new Toyota Ute.
- The Good Shepherd House at Kawana has been emptied so that repairs can be made and internal painting completed. Repairs and painting of the meeting area and general external maintenance will also be completed.
The Finance Committee concluded with prayer. The next scheduled meeting of the Committee will be on the 23 August at the Caloundra Parish Centre.

Laudato Si’ Action Plan
This Saturday 30 July, as a follow-up to Archbishop Coleridge’s launch of the Archdiocesan Laudato Si’ Action Plan on Pentecost Sunday, there will be an introduction to the Archdiocesan Laudato Si’ – Care for Our Common Home Action Plan and a consideration of the decree of the Australian Plenary Council calling on all parishes to join the Vatican’s Laudato Si’ Platform. Two short videos will be screened to provide an overview of this important encyclical letter (which has been added to the body of the Church’s social teaching) and handouts will help to understand the call of Pope Francis to live in accord with Gospel values, the care of the earth and the care of the poor).
How might we, the Parish, respond to these calls? All most welcome!
OLR Parish Centre. Morning Tea 10.00 am. Screening and discussion 10.30 am -11.30 am.
To Sing is to Pray Twice
All musicians, singers and members of choirs are invited to a Musical Cocktail Party on the Caloundra presbytery balcony on Tuesday 26 July at 5.00pm. We need to take seriously their advice and be aware of our own health and the health and well-being of each other. Thank you for continuing to receive Holy Communion only on the hand and helping to keep safe each other.
