OLR celebrates Jubilee Mass

Last weekend’s Jubilee Mass was a great success – despite mother nature’s best efforts to scare us off with the coldest October day in South-East Queensland in 19 years! What really shone out on Sunday was the way many different groups of people came together to celebrate. It started with Unity College students playing bagpipes as people gathered for the blessing of the newly-renovated Parish Centre buildings, followed by a wonderful Rosary procession led by a stunningly-decorated statue of our Lady.

As the Rosary procession entered the Primary School covered area, banner-bearers fixed eight banners depicting our eight worshiping communities to the fence behind the sanctuary; the congregation – led by a wonderful choir and instrumental ensemble – sang three Marian hymns. The entire congregation then prayed the fifth decade of the Glorious Mysteries together.

Mass began with the didgeridoo, played by a Year 3 student from Unity College, and an Acknowledgement of Country. Memorable parts of the Mass included the beautifully prepared sanctuary, the Gospel Acclamation wherein eight parishioners, from our eight communities, processed the Book of the Gospels down the centre aisle. We also had community representation for the eight intercessions.

The Mass concluded with Archbishop Mark being presented with a Jubilee-wine gift-pack. While the cold wind understandably caused many to run for their cars after Mass finished, many remained behind for BBQ sausages and coffee. I thank all who gave of themselves to organise this wonderful day; we are truly blessed by your generosity of time and talent.

Going Deeper podcast

There’s so much to know about the Catholic faith that it’s easy to get caught up in catechising ourselves while we forget about what it means to implement the faith in our daily lives. Evangelisation Brisbane Adult Formation has launched a new Catholic podcast, the Going Deeper podcast, where Shane Dwyer and a special guest every week come together for an organic discussion about Catholicism, theology, and life.

If you’re interested in learning more, experiencing more or just getting some perspective on Catholicism, tune in for a weekly chat! Some of the topics covered so far include The existence of God; Who’s going to make it?; How to pray with scripture; and Being led by the Spirit.

The podcast is available on most podcast platforms. New episodes are released weekly. Next month, Shane Dwyer, the host, will be joined by Archbishop Mark on the podcast. We pray that in some small way that the Going Deeper Podcast can contribute to your ongoing journey of faith.

“I listen to this podcast on my daily walk and have found it wonderfully informative and the questions posed during the discussions very interesting. The conversational format of this podcast makes for easy listening. As I consider how I am challenged by the discussion topics and questions at the end of each podcast, I believe my faith journey will continue to deepen and thrive in a positive way.”  Kelli, Assistant Principal Religious Education
