First Australasian Divine Renovation Conference

OLR Parish Administrator Fr Josh with OLR Parish Ministry leaders (left to right) Kevin Donahoe, Vivienne Cooper, Felicity Jones, Janice Chilcott and Trish Harding.

The country’s first ever Divine Renovation Conference drew together than 500 national and international delegates, including Fr Josh and five parish lay-leaders from Our Lady of the Rosary, to learn more about how parishes can become dynamic centres of the Church’s life and mission at Declan’s Parish in Penshurst, Sydney.

Fr Josh, who has been employing Divine Renovation Ministry principals at OLR parish for the past few years, said that the conference was an opportunity to share the vision for parish renewal with other parishioners.

“The value of having five lay leaders there, experiencing the key note speakers, workshops and 500 other Catholics from around Australia and as far as new Zealand, was priceless!” he said.

“Our strategic planning journey will benefit from the investment of this conference because the principals that Divine Renovation Ministry teaches are aligned with our parish mission: to be a vibrant community that actively accompanies others into a relationship with Jesus.

“I’m looking forward to advancing the cause of lay-leadership in our difference communities as well as really putting the accelerator down on the necessity for our parish to actively live out our purpose of making disciples (evangelisation).”

 Aboriginal Catholic Mass

Do you remember – even if you don’t – the historic celebration of a special Aboriginal Mass at the Eucharistic Congress in Melbourne in 1973?

Friday, 24 February 2023, marks the 50th anniversary of this remarkable event which was attended by some 30,000 people. Aboriginal singers and dancers from north and west of Australia took an active part in the original liturgy which broke new ground in the Church’s liturgical renewal.

To commemorate this occasion, Mass will be celebrated in the Cathedral of St Stephen on Thursday, 23 February at 12.30pm.  The Archbishop has granted special approval to use the revised liturgical texts from that original celebration. Please join us for this occasion.

Joint Young Adults Social Night

hosted by Caloundra and Maroochydore parishes

All young adults (18+) are invited to join us for a fun night out with new friends from the Maroochydore Parish! Join us on Saturday 25 February from 6.00pm at The Savvy Squire, Mooloolaba. All are welcome, please bring friends! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to talk to Kath Ball or Felicity.

Preparing for Lent, Taizé style: Join us!

In the monastery at Taizé short mantra-like songs create a relaxing style of prayer. As the words are repeated, their reality gradually penetrates our whole being. Singing becomes a way of listening to God. The simplicity and repetition allow us to wait attentively on God. This is a prayer of ‘watching’, awakening and listening. It is very much in the spirit of the Lenten Scriptures.

Come and relax in this beautiful prayer at OLR this Tuesday 7 March at 7.00pm. All Welcome!

Children’s Liturgy

Every Sunday during the school term, all younger members of our Parish Family are invited to a special Children’s Liturgy of the Word, at the 9.00am Maleny and 9:30am Caloundra Masses. All are welcome.

Sacristans and Pastoral Care Ministers of Communion

Thank you for your assistance in updating our parish records during this past week.  Each Sunday, after every mass throughout the parish, there will be a special folder containing a form for Pastoral Care Ministers attending that Mass to record your name, contact number and the name of the person/people to whom you are taking communion on any day of the week.  We would greatly appreciate it if you would record this information when you perform this ministry until Sunday 25 February please.  For any inquiries, please email [email protected] or call Vivienne on 0409 897 673 or Marg on 0459 998 824.  Thank you, the Pastoral Care Team.

Date Claimer for Lenten Mini Mission

Lent begins in a few days with Ash Wednesday on 22 February. As per the last two years, we have a top quality speaker coming to the parish to facilitate a Lenten Mini-Mission. Bishop Tim Norton, our new Auxiliary Bishop of Brisbane, will lead us for three days – Monday 27th, Tuesday 28th February and Wednesday 1st March at 9.30am following morning Mass at OLR church. We will be sharing Bishop Tim with Maroochydore this year so while we only have him for a morning session, he will also be giving a 5.00pm session at Stella Maris church in Maroochydore on the same days.

Into His Likeness

Dr Edward Sri’s “Into His Likeness” s a six-part, one-session per week course during the Lenten Season, calling us to examine the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, which will challenge us in our response to walking in His footsteps.

The course invokes the following questions:

  • Do I desire a deeper relationship with Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and my Heavenly Father?
  • Am I willing to re-commit my life to My Loving Saviour this Easter?
  • Am I open to call upon the Holy Spirit’s help to heal aspects of my life?
  • Have I grown spiritually in the last week, month, year, or decade?

Perhaps this course is the means to re-ignite your Christian calling and commitment.

Courses commence on Ash Wednesday, 22 February at OLR in the morning & evening; at Landsborough in the afternoon; and Thursday morning 23 June at Kawana GSC
