PARISH OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED ON FRIDAY 2 JUNE – MALENY SHOW DAY.

The Sunshine Coast Homeless Need Our Help

On June 22nd, Dan McShea (Principal of Unity College), Michael Steward (Principal of OLR Primary School), and I will be once again roughing it in the cold and (hopefully not) wet. This winter we’re sleeping out with other community leaders on Maroochydore Beach to not only raise money for people experiencing homelessness, but raise awareness of their plight. Homelessness can affect anyone – women, men, and even children. The good news though is that together, we can make a significant difference!

Please support us during the Vinnies CEO Sleepout; your donation will help the St Vincent de Paul Society empower more people to get off the streets and into stable accommodation. Vinnies provides counselling, education, health and employment services to help people to lift themselves out of the cycle of poverty.

Every donation is meaningful. Just fifty dollars can provide a whole family with a warm, nutritious meal this winter. The other good news is that like last year, your donations will stay local, directly helping people in the Sunshine Coast. Please help us raise funds by clicking on the link below. Thank you so much; your generosity is truly appreciated. Fr Josh

Reflection on Summit 2023

Last weekend, 15 parishioners gathered in Brisbane for three days with over 600 fellow Catholics from across the Archdiocese for Summit 2023. We prayed, encountered, and listened to inspiring presenters, as well as each other, in a powerful experience that is difficult to describe. It provided me with confidence that our Archdiocese is on the move forward. We considered the reality of our present situation – it was not through rose-tinted glasses – and we looked “from the Summit”, as Archbishop Mark said, to where we might go. I found it encouraging that what Archbishop Mark outlined as the Archdiocesan priorities for action are mostly areas that we, as a Parish, have already discerned and adopted in our Parish Strategic Plan in different ways. The Catholic Leader has already published an article on one of the keynote sessions. It was a good example of the breadth of ages and nationalities of our Church and what all have to offer.  Bob Cullen

Parish Welcome Night

Last Thursday, a number of new parishioners were welcomed at a cocktail function on the presbytery veranda. As well as new parishioners, we were also joined by many of the Ministry Leadership Team members. It was a joy to not only cultivate one of our key parish values – Relationship-Centred – but introduce and make connections with key lay leaders in the parish. As we move forward with our Strategic Plan, we will start to experience an even greater growth in numbers of worshiping parishioners – something that will necessitate teams of people who are committed to making new people feel welcome. If you would like to be involved in this ministry of hospitality and welcome, please contact the leader of our Community Life Ministry, Janice Chilcott by parish email.

Ignite Youth Launch

On Saturday the 13th of May, 13 student leaders from the Kingdom Youth group got the awesome opportunity to attend the Ignite Youth Launch event at Dream World on the Gold Coast, an event for young people that allows them to gather and get to know each other. This was a fun filled day that allowed the students to meet other like-minded young people passionate about their faith, and gave them a taste of what Ignite Conference held in September is all about! During the day the students got the chance to see all the wildlife and have a blast on the rollercoasters, followed by a night rally and prayer and worship. The night rally was led by Emmanuel Worship, a musical band whose music is regularly performed by our own ministry band on a Friday night at youth group. This was an amazing opportunity for the students to experience the music they usually perform live and by the band themselves! Not only was the music a blast, but the students got to hear from a young adult who gave testimony about what it means to have Jesus transform your life – a theme we are focusing on throughout the year at our own Kingdom Youth Group. This incredible day of roller-coasters, meeting new people, and getting to experience praise and worship with so many young people set our student youth leaders faith on fire! The students are very excited to attend the Ignite Conference in September to continue to learn about their faith and continue their own faith journeys!  Holly Rees, Assistant Youth Minister

Celebrating our diverse faith st Stella Maris

There was plenty of enthusiasm at our initial planning meeting for the Multicultural Mass which we will celebrate on Sunday 18 June. Mark it in your diary! Everyone is invited! The gathering divided into two groups with one concentrating on the liturgy and working towards ensuring that the Mass will be a reflection of the colour, movement and diversity of our Parish Family and our Catholic faith and traditions. The second group looked at the daunting challenge of the food and cultural extravaganza that will take place around Stella Maris Church immediately after the Mass. Our hope is for everyone to share in the culinary uniqueness and musical traditions of the many groups that make up our Parish. Now, if we are expecting over 400 at the Mass, that is a lot of dance and a lot of food!!! We invite and encourage ALL parishioners from all churches specially those who have come from abroad to contact Trish Harding  to see how we can be involved. The Mass is open to all to celebrate our diversity.
