The Assumption of Mary

The Assumption of Mary is the traditional belief held by the Church that the Virgin Mary, “…having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory.” This means Mary, as Jesus’ mother, was given the divine gift of being taken body and soul to Heaven upon her death. This doctrine was dogmatically and infallibly defined by Pope Pius XII on November 1, 1950, in his Apostolic Constitution Munificentissimus Deus.

This Thursday, 15 August, is the Feast of the Assumption. Our Parish Masses for this feast day will be 9am and 6pm at OLR. Caloundra. You are most welcome to celebrate this important day in the Catholic calendar.

Our Parish & Flocknote

For the past 3 years, the archdiocese has been working with    parishes to develop more efficient and contemporary ways to reach parishioners and visitors. We are excited to announce a new partnership between Flocknote and the Archdiocese of Brisbane. Many of us are familiar with the paper parish census form; we fill these out every few years to ensure we stay up to date with who is in the parish and to keep ourselves connected to parish programs and ministries. With much more activity online today, Flocknote is the ultimate secure solution for managing communication between you and the parish. Over the next few weeks, we will be launching our online registration form so parishioner families and visitors can sign up and stay connected.  More to come!

Synodality Speaker Series – Sunshine Coast Event (Caloundra)

The Synodality Speaker Series has commenced with presentations on synodality taking place all across the Archdiocese in July and August for all members of the community. A range of speakers are presenting on Synodality: Our journey together, including our very own Fr Josh. You are invited to light refreshments following the conclusion of 5pm OLR Mass on Saturday 17 August. A One-hour presentation will then run from 6.15pm-7.15pm featuring Steph Unger and Fr Joshua Whitehead where they will address questions such as: How can synodality help us to work together as a co-responsible church on mission? How can we begin being a more synodal church, in our own parish and as an Archdiocese? As pilgrims of hope, let’s walk the journey of synodality together by exploring what the word “synodality” means, its history, and what it looks like to be a synodal church on mission.

Date/Time: August 17th 6.15pm – 7.15pm (refreshments will be served from 6pm)

Location: OLR church, Caloundra

Registration: via Linktree or call the Parish office

Ignite conference fundraiser – THANK YOU!

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our carwash and BBQ fundraiser last weekend. We raised over $1700.00 (still counting). All of this will go towards sending a wonderful group of youth and young adults from the parish to Ignite Conference in Brisbane this September. Ignite is a transformative experience where our youth are given even more opportunities to build their own personal relationship with Jesus. Thank you for helping us get them there!

Please continue to pray for our youth group as we journey towards this mountaintop experience.

Thank you, Felicity

Annual Catholic Campaign

Next weekend, our parish is delighted to support the Annual Catholic Campaign. It is the one time a year that all of the parishes in the Archdiocese come together to help vital works of our church and the local community.

Funds raised will support ministries that directly impact our parish.  The Campaign supports training future priests, caring for our elderly and retired priests, helping local families in dire need access a Catholic education and caring for those suffering physically and emotionally in our community.

Envelopes are available in all Mass centres this weekend which you can take home and bring back next week.

Catholic Mission Morning Tea

Join us for a cup of coffee/tea after 9am mass to hear more about the work Catholic Mission does and the projects we support around the world. Tuesday 13th August 9.30am in the Egan room at OLR.

Please RSVP to the Parish office for catering purposes.

The Presence of God – Women’s Retreat – 20th August

This year’s ladies retreat focuses on growing our awareness of the presence of God. The group will be lead in reflection and prayer on “Practicing the Presence of God”,

Baptism and Transfiguration. The day runs from 9:30am – 2pm in the OLR Church and Egan room.

Registration is free but essential.  You can register via linktree or contacting the Parish office.

Registrations close 15th August.

Ladies Lunch

The next ladies lunch will be Friday 16th August at 12 noon, Dicky Beach Surf Club, 1A Coochin Street, Dicky Beach.

All ladies of the parish are welcome. Please RSVP by Monday 12th August to Linda 0429380979

Book Club

Friends, I will be running a book club on “What Happens at Mass” based on a book by the same name. It is a series which engages our imagination about what we believe is happening at mass, even when we do not see it with our eyes. In this regard, it is not an abstract study. The series will run weekly for six weeks on Thursdays at 5pm in the parish centre.

I will provide dates as I finalise numbers and place the order for books, so registration is essential. See Linktree to secure your spot!

God bless, Fr. Francis

SYNOD24 Commissioning Mass

As part of the preparation of Synod Members there will be a Commissioning held in the Cathedral of St Stephen. Synod Members attending the Commissioning in the Cathedral of St Stephen (including Fr Josh and Felicity Jones, our Youth Minister) will be provided with oil and a Blessing that they will take to their parish or communities so that they may be blessed and prayed for by their communities during a Mass or other significant community gathering. This is to ensure that they feel the importance of attending the synod in service of their communities and the needs of the Archdiocese as a whole.

Change of Date – Younger Ladies/Sisterhood Group

Please note that the Younger Ladies Group meeting scheduled for the evening of the 13th of August has been moved to Thursday 22nd of August from 6pm-7pm in the Egan room—Parish Centre. Light snacks provided. If you haven’t come along before we would love to welcome you as we share fellowship and faith.

Grief Support

The next bi-monthly Grief Support Mass for all parishioners will be held at OLR on Friday 16th August at 9am followed by morning tea. Major life changes or events may cause severe emotional distress. A Year of Invitation

My Lord and my God, you never cease to invite me to know, love and follow your Son, Jesus.

Give me the grace and courage to be a channel of your love so that my “yes” to you becomes an invitation to others.

I offer up my entire self – heart, mind and will – to your purpose for me. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
