Pentecost Sunday

Catholic Missions

The new Archdiocesan Director of Catholic Missions, Emily Connors, paid a visit to the Parish during the week to thank the community for once again supporting the work of Catholic Missions.  Last year $4346.50 was raised through the appeal.  This year’s appeal will take place on Missions Sunday, 23/24 October and the focus of the appeal will be supporting the work of the Good Shepherd Sisters and their ministry with vulnerable mothers and their babies in Bangkok, Thailand.

Parish Finances

The fast approaching end of the financial year brings into focus our Parish finances.  After the next Parish Finance Committee meeting a short report will be presented outlining our present financial position and some of the challenges that lie just beyond our horizon.

Once, in the days before Covid, the collection plate would be passed hand by hand to us and we would almost feel compelled to put something on the plate.  These days, because of Covid, there is a lonely plate or box at the entrance to the church, which, unless you are conscious of it, is very easy to miss or walk by.  As a Parish Family we are very grateful for everyone’s deliberate generosity and support – it is appreciated and not taken for granted!

National Count of Mass Attendance

This weekend’s head count will be

counting the age groups of people who will be at Mass.

Australia’s Catholic parishes are asked to undertake the five-yearly National Count of Attendance in May. Held every five years since 2001, the project is a simple head count of all attendees at all parishes over the four weekends of May. The National Count of Attendance is held in the same year as the Australian Census, which will take place in August.

What’s For Dinner?

As a faith community we all have a responsibility to encourage our young women and men to consider a life of leadership and service in the church.  Each year the Archbishop hosts two dinners at Wynberg, his residence at New Farm for those discerning their vocation to the priesthood or religious life.   The dinner for women discerning religious life is on Tuesday, June 8th at 6pm.  The dinner for men exploring the priesthood is on Tuesday, June 17th at 6pm.

Anyone interested should contact one of your priests here at Caloundra or email the Vocations Director, Fr Stanley Orji at [email protected]

Candle Light Vigil For COVID Surge In India

In the light of the COVID surge in India and the lives already lost, the Indian community in the Sunshine Coast would like their Australian brothers and sisters to join them in a peaceful candle light vigil to show their support and to remember those who already lost their lives, as well as those who struggle with illness and lack of resources. This vigil is open to all and according to Indian tradition wearing white is appreciated.

Saturday June 5th, Kings Beach Amphitheatre, 5.30 – 7.30pm
