Meet our New Bishop
Next weekend we are delighted to welcome to our Parish our new Auxiliary Bishop, Tim Norton. Born in 1958 and originally from suburban Ryde in Sydney, Tim Norton graduated from Marist Brothers Eastwood and then studied to be a physiotherapist.
A university holiday visit to India led by an Australian Divine Word Missionaries priest, Fr Liam Horsfall, proved to be a life-shaping experience when he was introduced to Mother Teresa, later to be honoured as St Teresa of Kolkata. Tim entered the Divine Word Missionaries in 1984 and was ordained priest in 1991.
He then served in Mexico for seven years before undertaking studies in spiritual direction to prepare for formation work in Melbourne preparing men to serve as Divine Word Missionaries. Fr Tim was then elected Provincial of the Australian Province, and in that role he had close contact with the Archdiocese of Brisbane where the SVD have been and still are an important presence.
Since completing his term as Provincial, Tim has been the Director of the Ad Gentes course of renewal based at the SVD house in Nemi near Rome. We look forward to welcoming Bishop Tim to the Deanery and to our diverse hinterland and coastal Catholic Community.
