Children & Families
“We have a dream that our Children and Families Ministry will provide opportunities to connect, create and cultivate relationships with all children and their families.”
-Children & Families Vision Statement, Parish Strategic Plan
Last Friday, we collaborated with Evangelisation Brisbane and facilitated this year’s first Encounter Kids Day – an activity day for students in primary school. 20 children arrived at 8.30am for a full day of fun and hands-on learning based around the theme: Joy in the Resurrection. Sue from Catholic Mission created a “What brings me Joy” board with the students. The day was full of smiles, learnings, a scriptural re-enactment and even Lego creations. We concluded with a lovely prayer time in the Church, where the children had the opportunity to write a letter to Jesus. Fr Gerard then took the children on a mini tour of the Church. The highlight of the tour for many of the children was Fr Gerard taking them into the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, to see where Jesus lives.
The Children’s Liturgy Team also attended a Children’s Liturgy Masterclass with Chantale from Evangelisation Brisbane. With the number of children attending the liturgies steadily increasing, this was a refreshing opportunity to learn some great skills and inspire new ideas for future sessions.
This week we commence our Sacramental program for this year. The Sacrament of Confirmation journey begins this Tuesday 23rd April; the Confirmation Ceremony will be on Friday 7th June. First Holy Communion starts in July. To enrol or for more information, see our Parish Website.
We are looking to grow our team. If the Children and Families Team is something you can assist with let us know. Even if it is once a month, i.e. Children’s Liturgy, the Sacramental Program, Baptismal Preparation or Family Group outings, we would love to have you join our team. Please contact the Parish Office for more information.
God Bless,
Children and Families Team:
Fr Gerard and Julie
