Parish Involvement > Community Life

Vision

We have a dream that our Community Life Ministry will cultivate a burning desire to belong within the Our Lady of the Rosary Parish faith community by facilitating experiences of connection and participation. This ministry celebrates the gift of Jesus’ presence whenever two or more are gathered.

This is a valuable strategy to build up connections and help parishioners feel a sense of “belonging” with their Mass community. It is our aim to provide hospitality after all Masses, every weekend.

To achieve this, we need a bigger team of helpers to prepare and serve food and drinks. At least 5 volunteers are needed for each hospitality event. Parishioners are asked to bring a plate to share the load.

This is a vital service enriching our parish mission which is “to be a vibrant community that actively accompanies people to encounter Jesus”.

Wearing name badges is one way we can create and intentional way for parishioners to get to know one another at each Mass by breaking down barriers.

The badge includes your preferred name (Christian name only or with Surname). Your location of worship will be added to the bottom of the badge eg Maleny Mass Community.

Badges can be ordered from the parish office for $5 (subsidised) by phoning 5430 9390 or emailing [email protected] with 1. Your preferred name and 2. Mass community location. Also indicate if you prefer a magnetic catch or safety pin.

We have over 80 Extra-ordinary Communion Ministers across the whole parish seeing 745 parishioners monthly, on average. Ten out of the Thirteen Aged Care Homes in the wider parish area are being visited plus many housebound parishioners are taken communion weekly or monthly.

We still have parishioners and three Aged Care Homes on the waiting list. More volunteers are needed to “accompany people to encounter Jesus”.

Many helpers are needed to help with catering, preparing, serving and tidying up afterwards for the many funerals held in our parish. This is a much-appreciated service by families who have lost a loved one.

Each Mass community celebrates their feast day during the year with a celebratory cake, other sweets/savouries and a “cuppa”. Parishioners are asked to bring a plate to share the load.

Faith development workshops and presentations are held throughout the year. Morning tea or lunch will be catered but helpers are needed to plate up, present and serve the food and tidy up afterwards.

All these hospitality events are vital to enriching our parish mission which is “to be a vibrant community that actively accompanies people to encounter Jesus”.

Many volunteers are needed so the team can be rostered throughout the year, ensuring that the same volunteers aren’t constantly called on.

Because we aim to have “all people who walk through our doors experience a spirit of welcome and belonging”, we need to have warm and friendly parishioners at all church/Mass centre doors greeting people, handing out newsletters (if needed), and setting up new parishioners and visitors.

This important ministry helps build up the communal feeling of the Mass from the very moment people walk through the door. More Greeters are always welcome!

OLR parish is one of the biggest parishes in the Brisbane Archdiocese with 8 Mass centres celebrating 11 weekend Masses. Joining our parish can be a daunting task -becoming familiar with the many aspects, groups etc.

A welcoming team will help register new parishioners using paper forms, designated QR code to a digital registration form or accessing it via the parish website.

Once a new parishioner registers, a volunteer will contact them as a point of welcome, answer any queries, supply them with a parish details booklet and an invitational email to a hospitality event designed to welcome new parishioners. Ongoing casual support especially by introducing them to other parishioners could be included.
