Care for our Common Home
The need for stewardship or care for our environment has never been greater. In 2015, Pope Francis published a public letter titled Laudato Si' – Care for Our Common Home. As part of our Parishes support for this program, and to contribute to more regenerative environmental solutions, we are launching a new Parish wide “Containers for Change” initiative.
All Church Centres will be asked to participate, but we are also asking you as Parishioners to join us. When returning your own recyclable cans and bottles to a refund station, we ask that you consider using the Parish Containers for Change ‘ID’. When lodging your return at the refund station terminal you would simply select the ‘Scheme ID’ option then Enter the Parish ID: C11072500. Your contribution, and the money generated from your returns, will then go towards supporting the Parish, with funding directed to our Kingdom Youth and Service Outreach ministries. Not only helping the environment but also helping grow our local youth and service ministries.
Please note the Parish Containers for Change initiative is separate to any being run by Catholic schools within the district. By using the Parish scheme ID above your funds will be directed to the Church run initiatives
For more information on the returns process, please see the Containers for Change site here

The LAUDATO SI' ACTION GROUP (LSAG) seeks to respond to the call of Pope Francis in his second encyclical, subtitled “On care for our common home”. In it, Pope Francis calls on us to embrace the notion of integral ecology. He challenges us to hear the cries of the earth and the cries of the poor as one. He critiques consumerism and irresponsible development, laments environmental degradation and global warming, and calls on us to respond concretely by taking “swift and unified global action…..Let us be renewed by God’s mercy…and let us become agents of this mercy, channels through which God can water the earth, protect all creation and make justice and peace flourish.”
The Archdiocese of Brisbane has launched its own plan that will help Parishes journey towards greater love for our Creator, each other, and the home we share. And in doing this the Archdiocese of Brisbane has made a strong commitment to take action to embrace Pope Francis’ vision of integral ecology. With the help of the Archdiocese, the LSAG works to implement our own Parish plan for education and action.
