Baptism: Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some commonly asked questions about Baptism in our Parish

Q – What is the Baptismal process

A- After you complete the Enquiry and subsequent Enrolment form and have returned it to the Parish office with the Child’s Birth Certificate, you will be invited to an infant (0-4 yrs) Baptismal Preparation Session or older child preparation with a priest (5-12 yrs). Both Baptismal prep sessions runs for just under an hour. At least one parent of the infant (0-4 yrs) needs to attend, while at least one parent and the child (5-12) will be invited to attend a one-to-one discussion with a priest.

Q – Who can be a Godparent

A- We follow the policies of the Archdiocese of Brisbane, and as such a Godparent can be anyone over 16 years old, that is NOT the child’s parent, and has completed their Confirmation and First Holy Communion at a Catholic Church.

Q – Can a Godparent be non Catholic?

A – Yes, but we require at least one of the Godparents to be a fully initiated Catholic.

Q – What is the cost?

A – There is no cost for baptism, but we ask that you make a donation to the preist who celebrates your child's baptism.

Q – Can an adult be Baptised?

A – Of course, we welcome all ages to be Baptised, the process of Baptismal Preparation is a little longer. We ask that you take part in a course to prepare for Baptism.

Q – When can I book the Baptism?

A – You will be contacted be a member of our staff who will assist you in choosing a date.

Q – Do I need to privide a Baptismal Candle?

A – We have some lovely parishioners who decorate baptism candles for all our baptisms. You are more than welcome, however, to also use a online store like Etsy or Candles etc.
