Safeguarding Sunday

The Parish of OLR and the Diocese of Brisbane are committed to the care, wellbeing and protection of children, young people and people at risk in our community. Mindful of the theme for National Child Protection Week, may we work to create safe spaces where we can have meaningful conversations with children and adults at risk about their safety. You can find out more about the Church’s work in this area at: https://www.catholic.au/s/article/Safeguarding-Sunday-2024

September Signup is here!

Why Flocknote, and what is September Sign-Up?

I am a firm believer that the quality of your life is determined by the quality of your communication. While you may have heard that from me before, I hope that you experience it in the ways and means in which I communicate. Over the last five years, we have been on a deliberate journey of modernizing the administration and communication of the parish office: from having no usable database (pre-covid), to a rudimentary database (MailChimp), to now, a usable, intuitive databasing tool called Flocknote. Our Mission remains the same (do you know it off by heart yet?), but the means of achieving our mission – to be a vibrant community that actively accompanies people to encounter Jesus – evolves just like the Church.

In a parish like ours (large and diverse), Flocknote is a tool to not only assist in effective communication but help to create a greater sense of unity; I am convinced that unity and diversity and not mutually exclusive, but complementary. Flocknote can not only help us group parishioners effectively (something you can do through your own Flocknote profile) but remain up to date with compliance requirements for all parishioners in ministry and thus maintain a safe environment for all people – something particularly relevant as we celebrate Safeguarding Sunday this weekend. Flocknote also gives us a way to easily collect contact information from visitors and people who opt in to a relationship with our parish in any way – such as parishioners who may not yet be worshipping Catholics.

Flocknote is free for parishioners to use, and there is no need to download anything. Your info is kept secure and private – and only accessed by those who have been vetted and trained to use it for pastoral purposes only. It only takes a couple minutes to sign up to receive email from the parish. You are even able to reply directly back to those emails so we can get feedback and hear from you. Even if you don’t use email, I ask that you complete a personal profile so that we can create an accurate record of parishioners in each community. Your profile is also where we will store relevant information such as baptism and columbarium details, and so Flocknote becomes the place from which you can experience accompaniment for the duration of your life.

This September, parishioners and visitors are invited to scan the QR code below to sign up and register with the parish. If you have any questions, please see Fathers Josh, Francis or Gerard who, over the next four weeks, will be carrying a computer/tablet to assist anyone who may not feel confident with QR codes. Please note that if you received the old MailChimp eNewsletter, you will automatically be included in the new Flocknote Parish eNews group.

RUOK?

A lot can happen in a year, a month, a week.  Whether it’s your friend, family member, colleague, partner, or teammate, the people you care about go through life’s ups and downs every day. By having regular, meaningful conversations, you build trust and normalise talking about what’s really going on, so when the people in your world find themselves struggling, they know you’re someone they can talk to. So whilst R U OK? Day on Thursday September 12 is our National Day of Action, we encourage you to Ask R U OK? Any Day of the year because a conversation could change a life.

It is also within our budget to host retreats and some of these are already being discussed for the year ahead. Please let us know which topics or books you or a few of you would like to explore together through this link.

A Year of Invitation

My Lord and my God, you never cease to invite me to know, love and follow your Son, Jesus.

Give me the grace and courage to be a channel of your love so that my “yes” to you becomes an invitation to others.

I offer up my entire self – heart, mind and will – to your purpose for me. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
