Tuesday Night Alpha

Some of the especially insightful and challenging passages in Pope Francis’ 2013 apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium (the ‘Joy of the Gospel’) are those on the importance of a personal encounter with Jesus; the evangelizing power of popular piety; person to person witness; and the need to experience the power of the Holy Spirit. Francis’s very first words in Evangelli Gaudium go directly to the fundamental reason for proclaiming the Gospel—that people may encounter Jesus in person. In EG’s introduction, Francis invites all Christians to ‘a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ.’ We are invited to live ‘in the Spirit which has its source in the heart of the risen Christ.’ Pope Francis extends each of us a most personal invitation: “I invite all Christians, everywhere, at this very moment, to a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ, or at least an openness to letting him encounter them; I ask all of you to do this unfailingly each day. No one should think that this invitation is not meant for him or her, since “no one is excluded from the joy brought by the Lord” (#3).

But how are we to encounter Jesus? How are we to experience the power of the Holy Spirit? How are we to share that experience with others as we seek be Christ’s hands and feet in the world?

The Alpha program offers the opportunity to truly encounter Jesus and experience the power of the Holy Spirit. The program has been running in our Parish for three years and is the ideal vehicle to both rekindle our personal love for Christ; and share that love with others.

Alpha is also about building community & friendships. The Alpha program at Caloundra Catholic Parish has contributed greatly to the development of an active lay membership. Why not try Alpha, and see who you meet? Why not invite others to Alpha, and see who meets Jesus himself?

Our next 10-week course commences on Tuesday 3rd May at 6pm in the OLR Parish Centre. Email [email protected] for more information or simply come along to the first (no obligation) evening to see what it is all about.

Watch This Space!

This year marks the Golden Jubilee of our Parish! In 1972 Archbishop Rush promulgated the creation of the new Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary, formally separating us from the Caboolture parish. Fr John Egan was appointed the foundation Parish Priest. A lot of waves have crashed onto our beaches since then! To mark this important milestone in the second half of the year there are several events being organised including a Parish Gala and Jubilee Mass.

We also want to compile a Golden Jubilee Book to celebrate our 50th birthday.

For our Silver Jubilee in 1997 we published a booklet and it is

appropriate that we bring together the stories of our communities over the past 50 years between the cover of a Golden Jubilee Booklet. Our journey of faith is rich and diverse and it is important that we get a snapshot of who we are and where we have come from as we mark this important milestone. We are establishing a steering committee and if you would be willing to be involved and lend a hand could you please email Fr Peter [email protected]

Back to Normal

The re-emergence of holy water fonts and offertory processions are a pretty good indication that we are slowly moving out of some of the pandemic restrictions. The other obvious return is the collection plate at Mass. During the pandemic you have embraced the different ways of financially supporting the mission of your Parish and we are grateful. To all our parishioners, visitors and friends, however you decide to continue to support the Parish – planned giving, direct debit, tap & Go or through the collection plate – we are appreciative of your generosity and trust. If you would like to donate today you can follow the QR Code to made a donation.
