Farewell Fr Ejikeme

The ladies group had a farewell lunch for Fr Ejikeme, it was enjoyed by all.

Welcome Fr Gerard

This week we welcome Fr Gerard to our community. Please make him feel welcome as he transitions into our Parish visiting all the communities over the next few weeks. Fr Gerard was ordained on 29 June this year – just 18 days ago – alongside Fr Isaac (Maroochydore) and Fr Minje (Ipswich). We look forward to moulding Fr Gerard into an effective leader, preacher and Spirit-filled, mission-orientated priest.

Love Your Neighbour Food Drive

As part of being a vibrant community, the new Service & Outreach Team are organising a food drive so that we can prepare meals for the people of our parish who are struggling to provide meals for themselves.

The meals will be cooked by parish volunteers and students out at Unity College school kitchen under the supervision of the Food Technology and Hospitality teacher.

We invite you to donate non-perishable items e.g., pasta, rice, tomato base sauces or any cooking sauces, chickpeas, lentils, canned soup, curry powder, stock, gravy powder, coconut cream, canned vegetables, garlic or ginger mince in jars. These items can be placed in the blue plastic tubs at the back of the church.

We will also need to purchase fresh products so if you prefer to donate cash, please place this in the collection or drop to the parish office in an envelope clearly marked with food drive. Thank you for your generosity and support.

If you would like to volunteer by cooking for this worthy cause, please contact the Parish Office and a member of the Service & Outreach Team will be in touch.

Scam Alert – once again

Once again, scammers, purporting to be Fr Josh, have been phishing. This time, many people received a text message that looked legitimate, asking for help. The scammer, when replied to, asked for people to purchase gift cards (iTunes vouchers) for a sick family in hospital. Please note: your priests will never contact you through non-official channels to ask for assistance (eg. text messaging or emailing from private email addresses). The only email address you may receive communication will end in @bne.catholic.net.au. Your priests will never ask for financial assistance using digital media.

The OLR 2023 St Vincent de Paul Society’s Winter Appeal

OLR Vinnies winter appeal will be conducted in the Parish next weekend the 22nd/23rd of July. Proceeds from the appeal will support the work of the Society in assisting members of our communities who are homeless and experiencing difficulties due to cost of living pressures. All funds raised locally will be used to support people in need in the local area.

Everyday members from our five Parish St Vincent de Paul Conference groups come into contact with people who are homeless or experiencing difficulties affording every day necessities. Increasingly this includes women aged over 55 years who do not have a stable place to call home. Thank you for your generosity.

Easy Evangelisation – ALPHA!

The Alpha Team launched Alpha season in style this week with an event in the car park at OLR. We used the ever popular lure of free coffee to raise awareness of the program, and to invite school parents, teachers and parishioners to their ‘seat at the table.’ We had some great conversations with different people over the course of the morning, which is of course at the heart of Alpha. The team agreed it was the easiest

evangelisation ever! Don’t forget to take your Alpha prayer card for the five people whom you think would benefit from knowing Jesus better. They are available in all the Churches. Our Tuesday night and Friday morning courses kicked off this week. There are still some spots available if you would like to come along.

Name Badges

Our Parish’s aim is to be a vibrant and welcoming Parish. If you have a name badge, it would be appreciated if you could wear it to Mass. If you don’t have a badge and would like one, please email the parish office with your name and phone number to  The badges cost only $5 each (the parish subsidises the rest) Please specify if you want a pin or magnet backing.

St Vincent de Paul Service Award

Members of the St Vincent De Paul Maleny Conference recently gathered with other community members after Mass to acknowledge the contribution of parishioner, Moya Pullinger. In awarding Moya the 15-year Service award, Peter Ryan, Regional President of the Society’s Sunshine Coast region, indicated that the mission of the Society is only able to continue because of the tireless service of committed

Vincentians such as Moya. Over the past 15 years, Moya has responded to people in need in the Maleny area and also undertook various leadership roles in the Maleny conference and the broader Sunshine Coast Regional Council. Moya’s selfless contribution continues a tradition of Vincentian work in the Maleny Catholic community which established the Sacred Heart Conference in 1989.
Thank you Moya, and all Vincentians, for your service.

Grand Plans for grandparents

Soon the Church Universal will celebrate the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly on the fourth Sunday of July. Pope Francis announced the institution of the celebration closest to the feast of Sts Joachim and Anne, the grandparents of Jesus.

Evangelisation Brisbane will host a morning that celebrates the important role of our grandparents in shaping the faith of children and grandchildren. Grand Plans for Grandparents is a time together created to acknowledge, equip and empower you in this special role. Grandparents are invited to the Hanly Room (196 Charlotte St, Brisbane City) on Saturday 22 July from 9:15am-11:15am. The cost is $15 and registrations can happen via this link
