Adult Faith Formation

In her book ‘Forming Intentional Disciples’, Catholic author Sherry Waddell lays out five thresholds people walk through when moving to discipleship.

People tend to move from (or between) initial trust, to curiosity, to openness, to seeking, and then to discipleship.

Waddell also describes three elements of the spiritual journey that are crucially interwoven, but perhaps in practice are treated as separate: the personal interior journey of a lived relationship with the Trinitarian God (resulting in intentional discipleship); the ecclesial journey into the Church through the reception of Sacraments of initiation; and the journey of active participation in the life and mission of the Church (i.e. receiving the sacraments, attending Mass, participating in the life and mission of our Christian community).

Can you take a moment and reflect on which threshold you are currently on, and how you are managing the three aspects of your own spiritual journey?

If we want to help others become intentional disciples, we must start with ourselves. Our personal lives are often the only Gospel we can preach. We must invest – perhaps as never before- in our own spiritual development.

The Adult Faith Formation Ministry at OLR is focused on providing opportunities for spiritual development through catechesis, formation experiences and prayer. Please visit the Parish Website Faith Formation page for more information and links to current and planned local, diocesan and web-based faith formation resources.

We are delighted that Fr Gerard will join us in the Ministry team going forward and have many exciting plans for the next few years. Current opportunities include small group activities including Alpha and Bible studies. A group of parishioners are doing the ‘Catechism in a Year’ podcast with Fr Mike Schmitz. We will soon commence Catholic Book Club and plans for our first Parish Pilgrimage in 2024 are well underway.

For more information, or to be part of Faith Formation in our Parish, please contact the Parish Office.

Ignite Conference Fundraiser – Thank you

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our carwash and BBQ fundraiser last weekend. We raised a total of $1794.70. All of this will go towards sending a wonderful group of youth and young adults from the parish to Ignite Conference in Brisbane this September. Ignite is a transformative experience where our youth are given even more opportunities to build their own personal relationship with Jesus. Thank you for helping us get them there! Please continue to pray for our youth group as we journey towards this mountaintop experience.
Thank you, Felicity.

Our Parish Mission in action

Our amazing Filipino parishioners have stepped forward and are contributing to our “vibrant community” by providing a scrumptious morning tea and uplifting music and choir at Caloundra 9:30am mass on the first Sunday of each month. The huge numbers of parishioners staying after mass for a cuppa and chat testify how valued this event is. The original and much valued 9:30am morning tea is now held on the third Sunday of the month treating the Sunday 9:30am congregation to two hospitality gatherings a month. The plan is for all Sunday’s 11 masses throughout the wider parish to hold two (hopefully more!!) morning teas a month.

Our Parish’s Mission is to be a vibrant community that actively accompanies people to encounter Jesus.

The new Community Life team is organising and coordinating these and other hospitality events and will provide support. But we need more offers of help. Teams will be organised so no one person is responsible.

Please email Janice Chilcott (Community Life leader) with offers of help with bringing a plate or helping serve.

Ladies Lunch

2023 Annual Catholic Campaign

Next weekend (19-20 August), our parish is delighted to support the Annual Catholic Campaign. It is the one time a year that all of the parishes in the Archdiocese come together to help vital works of our church and the local community.

Funds raised will support ministries that directly impact this parish. The Campaign supports training future priests, caring for our elderly and retired priests, helping local families in dire need access a Catholic education and caring for those suffering physically and emotionally in our community.

Envelopes are available in all Mass centres this weekend which you can take home and bring back next week.

Be the face of Christ for others. We are called to be the face, hands, and heart of Christ in our communities. Every day, God showers us with blessings so we will have gifts to share.

Thank you and God bless.

Our Lady of the Rosary Caloundra Year-of-yes

Today and every day I say Yes to you O Lord. In the same way that Mary said yes to your invitation, I say Yes to your Son’s presence in my life. May my yes, by the power of your Holy Spirit, allow you to use all the talents, skills and gifts you have given me for the purpose of building up Your Body in our community.

We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen
