Lenten Little Black Books

The Little Black Books are back and free for all to take as part of our mission. They contain short and appropriate daily reflections which are a tremendous companion throughout the days of Lent.

Ash Wednesday: 5th March 2025

Wednesday 5th March is Ash Wednesday, the first day of the season of Lent. It is designated by the Church as a day of fast and abstinence, as is Good Friday. In current Catholic practice, fasting means having only one full meal a day. Alternately smaller quantities of food may be eaten at two other times but no food should be consumed at any other time during the day. The law of fasting applies to people from 18 to 59 years old. Abstinence is the practice of abstaining from the use of certain kinds of food. Everyone aged 14 years and older is bound by the law of abstinence from meat. The practice of fasting and abstinence aims at leading us to interior conversion by making us more disciplined and more charitable.  We fast in order to share our time and our treasure with an attitude of love towards God and others. In addition, the practice helps us imitate the example of Jesus who fasted for 40 days in the desert. The ashes that are marked on our foreheads on the first day of Lent are a symbol of humility, purification and sorrow and reminds us of the need to repent of our failings.

Ash Wednesday Mass times:

7.00am – Our Lady of the Rosary, Caloundra

7.50am – Unity College Chapel, Caloundra West.

9.00am – Our Lady of the Rosary, Caloundra.

9.00am – Sacred Heart Church, Maleny.

9.15am – Blessed Frederic Ozanam Chapel, Currimundi.

9.30am – Our Lady of the Southern Cross, Little Mt.

6.00pm – Our Lady of the Rosary, Caloundra

6.00pm – Our Lady of the Way, Landsborough.

If you are attending any of the Ash Wednesday Masses and can assist in the liturgical roles, your help would be greatly appreciated.  Please see your community leader or email the Parish office.

Recycling – New Opportunity at OLR Church

Besides recycling empty blister packs at Chemist Warehouse, 2 Sydal St Caloundra (near Bunnings), there is a pink bin at the OLR Church, Caloundra where these empty blister packs can be deposited. (Empty, free from plastic bags and cardboard box packaging.) Recycling these packs is especially important for preserving aluminium because it’s a finite natural resource that is extracted in an energy-intensive process. The good thing is that it can be recycled indefinitely without losing quality, making recycling essential for conserving this valuable material. (Blister packs CANNOT be recycled at home through the Council’s kerbside recycling as specialist machinery is required to separate the aluminium and the plastic materials.)

The pink bin is next to the green recycling Containers for Cash bins near the Kitchen Servery. (Parish ID code, C11072500 can be used at the Cans Recycling Centre as well.) From your Parish Laudato Si Care for Creation Group. (LSC4C). Enquiries very welcome. Bob Cullen cp******************@bn*.au

A Year of Engagement

Lord God, I say yes to your will for me:

To live out my baptism in obedience to you.

As a member of our parish,

I commit myself to your mission of invitation:

To be vibrant like your Son, to extend myself in charity,

and to actively accompany people to encounter Jesus.

Who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen

On the Journey
