Ministry Update – Service & Outreach
NATSICC Celebrations and NAIDOC Week
Our parish celebrated National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sunday on July 5th, joining communities across Australia in honouring the spiritual heritage, culture and enduring strength of First Nations peoples and marking the 40th anniversary of Saint Pope John Paul II’s historic visit to Uluru – a moment that continues to inspire dialogue, healing and deeper understanding. Many parishioners also joined NAIDOC Week events, including the cultural celebrations at Kings Beach amphitheatre, and a presentation from one of our parishioners, proud Butchulla Elder Barbara Trevaskis, who shared on her life, heritage and the meaning within her traditional artwork. To build on this momentum our Reconciliation Action Plan team also met for a workshop to begin shaping our parish RAP plan for 2026 and beyond.

Rosies Christmas in July
Our Community Outreach team partnered with Rosies Friends on the Street to provide dinner for their annual Christmas in July event on July 10th. Many in need were able to collect winter essentials, non‑perishable food, clothing, and enjoy a warm BBQ meal and soups. It was a wonderful evening of kindness and connection – and the team even had a visit from Santa. Both our Community Outreach BBQ and Share‑a‑Meal volunteers continue to support those in need with generosity and warmth. We are always seeking additional volunteers, so please reach out using the contact details below if you’d like to be involved in either of these Outreach initiatives.

Recognizing Outreach Supporters – Caloundra Bakery and Bahn Mi
We would also like to recognise Caloundra Bakery and Bahn Mi, who generously supply bread, baked goods, pies, sausage rolls, bánh mì and sandwiches for our parish Community Outreach BBQ and St Vinnies Share-a-Meal outreaches every Thursday and Friday evening. Their ongoing kindness makes a real difference to those we serve. If you’re looking for delicious bread, pastries or Vietnamese rolls, please visit them and pass on a warm thank you from the OLR community. They are located next to Coles in the Caloundra Shopping Centre.
Community Cooking
Our Community Cooking initiative continues to expand, now allowing parishioners to cook meals from home to be donated into our Food Bank. Home cooks complete a simple food safety process and training through the parish. If you’d like to be involved, please contact us using the contact details at the bottom.
Church Transportation
We are currently planning a trial transportation service for Mass, running once a month for the Sunday 9:30am Mass. We are seeking expressions of interest from parishioners who would like to use the service or who know someone who may benefit from it. Please note that the Mini van is not equipped for disabled access, so a minimum level of mobility is required. Our team will speak with parishioners individually to ensure the service is suitable for their needs. If you would be willing to volunteer as a driver, we would also love to hear from you.
Please email cp.serviceandoutreach@bne.catholic.net.au for more information or enquiries on any of the above.
