Ministry Update – Service & Outreach

Social Justice Sunday – Next weekend (5-6th September), our Parish will celebrate Social Justice Sunday where will be invited to pause, reflect, and renew our commitment to living the Gospel in practical, compassionate ways – putting our faith into action. This year’s Social Justice Statements from the Australian Catholic Bishops calls us to be “Salt and Light”: a healing presence in a divided world, standing alongside those most affected by social division and the rising cost of living. These themes speak directly to the heart of our Service and Outreach ministries and the mission we share together. For those who would like to read the Social Justice Statements in full, you can access both documents – “Living the Gospel in Times of Social Division” (Aug release) and “The Cost of Our Living” (Feb release) – HERE

Community Cooking Update – “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat”
Our Community Cooking team continues to forge ahead with our new Cooking from Home initiative, enabling home cooks to prepare delicious, nutritious meals for those most in need. We want to extend our sincere thanks to all the volunteers who have generously signed up and delivered meals to our Parish Food Bank. Your kindness, commitment, and hard work are deeply appreciated. We are always looking for more cooks to join us. If you’d like to put your culinary skills to good use, please reach out using the email address at the bottom of this notice.

Reconciliation Action Plan Update – The RAP process is one of the ways our parish is responding to the Bishops’ invitation to be a healing presence in times of social division. Our Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group has continued to meet and is making steady progress toward drafting our Parish RAP. The recent gatherings have been incredibly encouraging, filled with constructive conversation, shared ideas, and a growing vision for strengthening reconciliation and unity within our parish.

Outreach Activities – Our Parish Community Outreach BBQ and Share‑a‑Meal ministries have also continued to serve those most in need in our local community, offering warm hospitality, connection, and a reliable meal each week. These outreaches are a direct expression of practical compassion and neighbourly care, especially for those most affected by the cost‑of‑living pressures highlighted by the Bishops. Volunteers are welcome – please reach out using the email below if you’d like to be part of the team.

Season of Creation – The World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation will be held on September 1st, marking the beginning of the Ecumenical Season of Creation, which concludes on October 4th, the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi. This year the Season of Creation carries special significance as the Church celebrates the 800‑year Jubilee of St Francis. As part of this celebration, the special Mass for the Care of Creation approved by Pope Leo last year will be celebrated during September on the following dates:

  • Tuesday 1st September – 9.00am Caloundra
  • Friday 18th September – 9.00am Beerwah
  • Tuesday 22nd September – 9.00am Caloundra

A beautiful app called, ‘Season of Creation’ (available via the Play Store or Google), provides daily reflections and prayers to accompany this time ofprayer and ecological conversion.
