Service and Outreach Ministry Update

As we move through May, the Service and Outreach team would like to highlight key upcoming events in our Church Calendar and invite you to join us.

As part of Laudato Si week: On Wednesday 21 May, 7.00pm– 8.00pm (followed by a cuppa)
The OLR Laudato Si’ Care for Creation Group will be hosting a “War on Waste – What we can do!” presentation @ OLR Catholic Church, 61 Edmund St. Caloundra. All are warmly invited to a relaxed and friendly presentation by EnviroCom for the Sunshine Coast Council to find out how we can help make a more sustainable future for all. PRACTICAL ACTIONS. Learn what small changes we can make that, in the end, will result in a huge impact.  Learn what the Sunshine Coast Council is doing to minimise and manage waste.

“There is a nobility in the duty to care for creation through little daily actions, and it is wonderful how education can bring about real changes in lifestyle.”  Pope Francis, Laudato Si’ – On Care for our Common Home.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2025 (27 May-3 June) is Bridging Now to Next – reflecting the ongoing connection between past, present and future. With this theme calling for us all to step forward together, we invite parishioners to attend:

Aunty Betty Memorial Reconciliation Walk, Wednesday 28 May, 10.00am-12noon. Dicky Beach Park,  Caloundra. Whilst honouring the life and work of Aunty Betty McMahon, a highly respected local Aboriginal Elder, attendees will have the opportunity to explore community stalls and experience cultural sharing with Lyndon Davis and the Gubbi Gubbi Dance Troupe. All are welcome. See Parish website for more information under Service & Outreach.

What is a Reconciliation Action Plan? and Why have a RAP?

Saturday 31 May, Morning Tea 10.30am Presentation 11.00am – 12 Noon.

OLR Catholic Church, 61 Edmund St. Caloundra. Hosted by OLR Service & Outreach Ministry Team.
All are most welcome to hear Joni McCourt (Archdiocesan RAP Manager) and Ravina Waldren (Murri Ministry Coordinator) explore these questions. A RAP focuses on strengthening relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and piloting strategies for further reconciliation commitments and empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the Archdiocese of Brisbane.

This is not about politics or ideology; it’s about the Gospel. So that, in the power of the Gospel, we can walk together the path of a genuine and lasting Reconciliation.

Archbishop Mark Coleridge.

God Bless,

Service and Outreach Ministry Team
