Celebrating Momentum

If there is one word that seems to rise again and again across our parish family right now, it is momentum. Not simply the momentum of a single weekend—even though last weekend was extraordinary in every sense—but the deeper, Spirit-driven movement unfolding among us. Momentum describes the way hearts are awakening, people are saying yes to Jesus in new ways, and a genuine culture of invitation is taking root. It captures the growing desire we see everywhere: a desire to step forward, to engage, to belong, and to be part of what God is doing in our midst. That movement was unmistakable across the four major moments of our parish weekend.

We began on Friday evening with our Parish Encounter night at OLR Church—an intimate time of worship and prayer. There was a tangible Presence as we lifted our voices to the Lord. Fr Gerard offered an encouraging talk on prayer, reminding us that prayer is not “leaving a voicemail for God,” but a living conversation with the Risen Jesus. We also heard a heartfelt testimony from Kevin, a young parishioner whose encounter with Christ continues to shape his life and desire to serve—a reminder that Jesus continues to call and form us, His people.

On Saturday morning, momentum continued as more than 60 parishioners gathered for the Living Hope Retreat, led by Vanessa and Caleb from Archdiocesan Ministries. Grounded in Pope Francis’ invitation for the Jubilee Year of Hope, they encouraged us to let the promise of eternal life shape our lives now. Through prayer, reflection, and fellowship, participants rediscovered the strength of their baptism and the Living Hope found in Jesus—a clear sign of people choosing to grow.

That evening, during the 5pm OLR Mass, our parish rejoiced as six adults were initiated into the Catholic Church, surrounded by family and supported by our community. Their courage and desire to belong witnessed to the Spirit’s steady work over many months. Seeing their joy reminded us that the Church is always alive and welcoming.

Finally, on Sunday evening, the weekend reached its peak at the 5pm Unity Mass, where fourteen teenagers committed themselves to Jesus through Baptism, Confirmation, and First Holy Communion. With 270 people gathered in a 250-seat chapel, the energy was palpable—an “electric” mix of unity, joy, and God’s presence. Watching our young people step forward so boldly was a powerful sign of hope for our parish’s future.

Across all of this, something important has happened—something measurable as well as spiritual. We have previously reflected on the Social Change Bell Curve as a way of understanding how movements grow and change. It is becoming clear that our parish has now crossed the 16% threshold—the point at which the “early majority” begins to come on board, joining the innovators and early adopters who have been leading the way. This is the moment when momentum naturally increases, because many more people start participating, contributing, and catching the vision. In movements of renewal, this is the tipping point where transformation accelerates and culture begins to shift more rapidly.

That is exactly what we are seeing. Parishioners are not merely attending events—they are engaging their faith more deeply. They are inviting friends. They are saying yes to encounter, yes to formation, yes to service, yes to Jesus. Momentum is never something we manufacture. It is something we recognise as a gift from the Holy Spirit, something we steward, and something we give thanks for. Let us continue to nurture what Holy Spirit is doing among us. Let us keep inviting, keep welcoming, and keep saying yes—so that every person in our parish may experience the joy of intimacy with Jesus and the desire to boldly share Him with others.

The Spirit is moving. Momentum is growing. And the best is yet to come.

With peace and love, Fr Josh
